Picacho Hill, New Mexico - Click to enlarge pic This wonderful little poem by the late Robert E. Farley has many great tips for keeping ourselves happy and productive: Think of the things that make you happy, Not the things that make you sad; Think of the fine and true in mankind, Not its sordid side and bad; Think of the blessings that surround you, Not the ones that are denied; Think of the virtues of your friendships, Not the weak and faulty side; Think of the gains you've made in business, Not the losses you've incurred; Think of the good of you that's spoken, Not some cruel, hostile word; Think of the days of health and pleasure, Not the days of woe and pain; Think of the days alive with sunshine, Not the dismal days of rain; Think of the hopes that lie before you, Not the waste that lies behind; Think of the treasures you have gathered, Not the ones you failed to find; Think of the service you may render, Not of serving self alone; Think of the happiness of others, And in this you'll find your own !

The dromedary gently bent her massive head over me and batted her eyelashes like a model in a mascara commercial. I might have been intimidated by the great beast, but George Stone, { her human }, assured, “ I've had Matilda since she was ten pounds. That first night she drank several gallons of milk.” Stroking her beautiful face and gazing into her enormous eyes was electrifying. What a joy it must be to ride her, but that would have been asking too much. Matilda and George were taking their Sunday stroll at White Sands National Monument adding their own personal mystique to The Land of Enchantment. You can watch a really nice you tube video of them by clicking here ! This little known natural wonder lies just east of Las Cruces, New Mexico, neighboring our government’s White Sands Missile Range. Pure white gypsum sand covers 275 square miles and visitors can enjoy it free of charge ! It all brings to mind the world’s greatest intellectual, Jesus, { who wandered the wildreness for forty days and nights } and his infamous quote, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: Not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let your heart not be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 Sounds good to me. How ‘bout you ? SOMEONE LOST THEIR MARBLES in the desert of Las Cruces, New Mexico. I know because I FOUND THEM !!! Funny thing is that I found each one on consecutive days and in varying locations, miles apart, as I was rock hunting around the region. I can only surmise that losing one’s marbles in the wastelands around Las Cruces is a rather common occurrence… - OR - ... the gods had me strolling in the same path as the one poor soul who lost them all. COINCIDENCE ? What are the odds ? So, if you are the sad soul, { or souls }, who lost their marbles in the desert, PLEASE e-mail or LEAVE A COMMENT with a description of them - AND - IF IT'S A MATCH, I'LL SEND THEM BACK TO YOU ASAP ! I really don’t need anyone else’s marbles. I still have all of my own. I know because I checked. Thank you. In the meantime, supposing that Abraham Lincoln was correct when he said, “MOST FOLKS ARE ABOUT AS HAPPY AS THEY MAKE UP THEIR MINDS TO BE.”, just for today, I WILL BE HAPPY ! How ‘bout you ? Mulberry Blossoms at Sunset - click to enlarge It isn't the thing you do; It's the thing you leave undone, Which gives you a bit of heartache At the setting of the sun. The tender word forgotten, The letter you did not write, The flower you might have sent, Are the haunting ghosts at night. The stone you might have lifted Out of a brother's way, The bit of heartsome counsel You were hurried too much to say; The loving touch of the hand, The gentle and winsome tone, That you had no time or thought for With troubles enough of your own. The little acts of kindness, So easily out of mind; Those chances to be helpful Which everyone may find - No, it's not the thing you do, It's the thing you leave undone, Which gives you the bit of heartache At the setting of the sun. Promise yourself to look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. 5. Promise yourself to think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. 6. Promise yourself to be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. 7. Promise yourself to forget the mistakes of the past and to press on to the greater achievements of the future. 8. Promise yourself to wear a friendly countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. 9. Promise yourself to spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others. 10. Promise yourself to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. As stated by Christian D. Larsen Mayor Ed Koch in June 1981 during a NYC Police Department Awards Ceremony It was June of 1981 when my husband, Dominic J. DeFilippo was honoured for the first time by the NYC Police Department for having single handedly apprehended a serial killer on East 37 th. Street in Manhattan just as two women were being attacked with a seven inch blade. It would be Dominic's first NYC Police Department Award, but not his last. He and his son, Paul DeFilippo, had earned the reputation of being NYC Crime Fighters in the Murray Hill Section, and were given the nickname "The Wedges". I was proud to be called the "Wedgette". Yes...we were vigilant in keeping the 69 Unit Apartment Building we managed, lived in and had our Motion Picture Studio, free of crime and have collected many stories to tell. It brought tears to my eyes to hear the news of the death of our Mayor Ed Koch this week. Dominic J. DeFilippo accepts NYC Police Department Award in June 1981 It was my fault in being so enamored with the Mayor that I missed the shot when my sweetheart shook Mayor Koch's hand. It's the single photo op I regretted having missed the most thus far. Although he was extremely intelligent, sharing witty remarks, he came off as a humble clown, his slacks sitting sloppily low and more wrinkled than not... as if he had been sleeping in his clothes, and yet, Mayor Ed Koch was always ready to send a genuine smile. He was real; not like the unapproachable egomaniacs that seem to have taken over the political arena. Mayor Ed Koch was fascinating with his unusual character and I found myself actually listening when he spoke. Rest in peace, Mayor Koch. God bless you for your authentic love of New York City and its People. The Organ Mountains of New Mexico " To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded." Ralph Waldo Emerson Frosted Window Pane...CLICK to enlarge " I paused to listen to the silence. My breath, crystallized as it passed my cheeks, drifted on a breeze gentler than a whisper. The wind vane pointed toward the South Pole. Presently the wind cups ceased their gentle turning as the cold killed the breeze. My frozen breath hung like a cloud overhead. The day was dying, the night was being born, but with great peace. Here were the imponderable processes and forces of the cosmos, harmonious and soundless. HARMONY, that was it ! That was what came out of the silence - a gentle rhythm, the strain of a perfect chord, the music of the spheres, perhaps. It was enough to catch that rhythm, momentarily to be myself a part of it. In that instant I could feel no doubt of man's oneness with the universe. The conviction came that that rhythm was too orderly, too harmonious, too perfect to be a product of blind chance - that, therefore, there must be purpose in the whole and that man was part of that whole and NOT an accidental offshoot. It was a feeling that transcended reason; that went to the heart of man's despair and found it groundless. The universe is a cosmos, NOT a chaos; man is as rightfully a part of that cosmos as are the day and night." Admiral Richard E. Byrd { finding peace and God in the frigid twilight } The Beaverkill River, NY - CLICK to enlarge When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, And the road your trudging seems all uphill; When the funds are low and the debts are high... When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest, if you must, but don't quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns. And many a fellow turns about When he might have won, had he stuck it out. So, don't give up, Though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow ! Often, the goal is nearer than would seem to a faltering man; Often, the struggler has given up, When he might have captured the Victor's Cup; And he learned too late, When the night came down, How close he was to the Golden Crown ! Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint in the clouds of doubt; You can never tell how close you are ! It may be near when it seems afar. So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit. It's when things seem worst that You mustn't quit !!! { The Author of This Poem is Unknown. } |
